I am me

G'day G'day!!

My name is Marnie Snow and I have created this blog so people can come and read about virtual communities and my thoughts about ... my life! Uhh ... oh wait, did I say my life? I meant the subject kcb201. That's right ... !!

But first I'll describe me. I'm 20 years old and I live in Brisbane. I am currently studying a dual degree in Business and Creative Industries, where I'm majoring in Advertising, Marketing and Media and Communication. I really really like what I study, except that I have to do pre-requisite subjects for business that include accounting, economics, statistics that are blah blah BORING!!! Oh and I'm in my third year by the way, with only 2 years to go ... *sigh*

People ask me why I study media and communication with my advertising degree. Truth is, I don't really know. It just looked cool. As I progressed through my degree I discovered I had an interest in Australian media and journalism, and the impact it has on culture and society. That's why I chose to do a minor in journalism (4 subjects). But with regards to virtual media, even some new media ... well I'm not too over the moon about some of the content but I'll wait and see how this subject goes I guess!

In my spare time I like to read magazines about society and culture (The Monthly is my favourite), read, get drunk or go shopping. But a lot of the time I watch TV. My parents got foxtel a couple of months ago and my life was revolutionised! I could just watch it all day but unfortunately I also have to work :(. I'm a waitress but I also work behind the bar at a restaurant in the Queen Street Mall. It's ok ... but let's face it: I really don't like having to work, especially till 1am on a saturday night!

Next year I want to take a year off university and work/travel through Europe. I guess that does sound like a cliche but I like working in hospitality and the only way to afford to see a lot of Europe is to work!

So that's all folks!!
